Christmas Light Extravaganza in Macon, Georgia

One of our favorite family traditions is going to see Christmas lights. We’ve seen some great displays over the years and we love traveling to see new ones whenever we hear about an extravagant one. So when we heard about the Christmas Light Extravaganza down in Macon, GA we knew had to take a road trip.

Any time we are passing through Macon near the holidays we always try to stop in to the Bass Pro Shop. Every year for Christmas they transform the store into the North Pole! You can take pictures with Santa, write him a letter, play games and even ride the carousel.

After a few hours at Bass Pro Shop we headed off to downtown Macon. This was our first year attending the annual event so we really didn’t know what to expect. It was so much bigger than we could have imagined! There are over 1 million lights all synchronized to a Christmas playlist. It was absolutely beautiful to see all of the restaurants and businesses covered in sparkling lights.

The show starts at 6:00 pm and lasts about 45 minutes. Of course you can stay as long as you’d like. The show will start over and repeat throughout the night. They have specialty nights where guests will make appearances like the big man himself, Santa Claus! We had just seen Santa at the Bass Pro Shop so we let other kids have a turn, but we did get to see his reindeer. The kids really enjoyed that!

We will definitely be making this a part of our family tradition. It was definitely worth the drive. If you’re in or around middle Georgia around the holidays I highly suggest you check it out!
